Alexandra Whalley

Alexandra studied Chemistry at the University of Manchester, and undertook a PhD in Bioinorganic Chemistry at the University of Nottingham before completing post-doctoral placements at the University of Delaware and at the University of Cambridge.

During her second post-doctoral placement Alexandra discovered a passion for teaching. She joined the teaching staff at Abbey in September 2004. Her time at Abbey has seen the introduction of the Biology field trip, the introduction of the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge and success in the Chemistry and Biology Olympiads.

In particular Alexandra enjoys her role in the development of the college’s medical school applicants, and she runs our Medicine Pre-Degree Diploma programme.

In her spare time Alexandra enjoys spending time with her family, listening to live music, baking and getting out into the countryside whenever possible. She is also an assistant examiner for A Level Chemistry at Pearson/ Edexcel.
